Graduate induction programme
A key part of your induction into Schroders is our nine-week training programme – one of the most comprehensive courses in the City. By the end of it, you will have achieved your Investment Management Certificate. You will also see how the different parts of our business are inter-related, and will have a much better understanding of our industry in general.
This technical programme includes:
- An overview of all the key asset classes available to investors, including
hedge funds, real estate, private equity and structured products.
- Using financial statements to form an understanding of a company’s performance
and business drivers.
- Utilising this information to build an Excel model, enabling you to forecast
a company’s cash flows.
- Using your forecasts to value either a company’s equities or bonds.
- Learning, through a series of simulations, how investment markets work and how derivatives can be used to manage market uncertainty.
Additionally, you’ll also be involved in:
- group projects
- presentations to senior managers
- business simulations
- lunch and learn sessions
- social networking.
Every aspect of this course has been carefully designed by line managers in conjunction with the HR division and our external consultants, who will deliver the majority of the programme. It combines a mixture of technical and personal development, giving you the skills you need to take early responsibility and launch your successful career with Schroders.
Make no mistake – our induction course will definitely stretch you, both academically and personally. You will be working in ways that may be new to you, and you will be expected to absorb large amounts of information in a short period of time. Previous graduates have often commented on how challenging and stimulating the course is, and how it helped to increase their confidence too.
The whole learning experience is placed in a real-world context as you manage a notional investment portfolio throughout the period of the programme. It’s great fun, and classroom sessions are supplemented by a range of investment and business simulations which bring the learning to life. You will also have the opportunity to forge relationships with your fellow graduates which will be invaluable in future years.
