North London

Camden lies to the east of St John’s Wood and has an urban feel with more soul and energy than its more expensive neighbour. There are numerous pubs, bars and restaurants with music and live events every night of the week. Situated on the Northern line, Camden is five stops from the West End.

Hampstead and St John’s Wood are upmarket areas with more of a family feel and accordingly the property prices are on the expensive side, or certainly can be. Hampstead is green and leafy and close to lots of outside space in particular Hampstead Heath and the centre of Hampstead has a village feel and a sense of community.

Islington can be found to the east of Camden and, as with Maida Vale, is popular with young professionals and families and property prices are around the average for London. Upper Street is the main location for many of the bars and restaurants of Islington and access to the City and the West End is made easy by the Victoria tube line.

Maida Vale is west of St John’s Wood and is more residential than Camden. There are many terraced houses – often surrounding communal garden squares – which are home to families and young professionals. It is here you will find the Abbey Road studios made famous by the Beatles. Maida Vale has good transport links, with buses and the Bakerloo line providing easy access to six other main tube lines.

St John’s Wood provides easy access into the centre of London and is close to the open spaces of Regents Park, which has wide tree-lined streets and garden squares. It is a popular area for American ex-pats due to the local American school, and those working in Canary Wharf due to its position on the Jubilee tube line.
